In Oct. 1967 the Middle East war, the Israeli destroyer was hit by Egyptian STYX missiles of missile boat and sank down. Israel learned its lesson from it and developed SAAR class which was low cost, easy to be volume constructed as well as suitable for teaming fight. A series of¡¡SAAR class boats then became the backbone of the Israeli Navy. SAAR class II was designed by German Lurssen shipyard in the middle of the 60¡¯s, then was shifted and constructed by French Normandy shipyard in Cherbourg, was commissioned in the Israeli Navy from the 70¡¯s. There are twelve boats of SAAR class II, namely 311 Mivtach, 312 Miznach, 313 Mifgav, 321 Eilath, 322 Haifa, 323 Akko, 331 Saar, 332 Soufa, 333 Gaash, 341 Herev, 342 Hanit, 343 Hetz.
In 1973, the 4th Middle East War, the Israeli army sent out a squadron of SAAR class missile boat to strike three missile boats, one torpedo boat, one minelayer of Syria. As a result, all the Syriac boats were destroyed while the Israelis got no damage at all. In the consequent warfares, the Israelis kept the weather repeatedly. The missile boat established its strategic position with its being short, agile and capable during this first ship-to-ship missile joining in a battle in the history of sea fight. From the result of the war, many countries learned that it could both reduce military expenditure and boost the national power by adopting missile boats as key member and flexible sea guerrillaism as leading tactics. The country who is a cut above others in missile boat technology holds mastery of the sea.
